Vigil for children killed in Southport, UK, ‘hijacked’ by rioters
There were violent clashes between far-right protesters and police in Southport, northwest England on July 30 – a day after three young girls were killed in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed event at a dance school. Nearly 40 police officers were injured after people threw bricks at a mosque and bottles at police and set vehicles on fire, sparked by unconfirmed reports that the 17-year-old suspect of the knife attack is Muslim. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the group had “hijacked” a peaceful vigil held for those injured and killed in the attack.
