North Berwick is a Scottish town located in East Lothian on the country’s east coast that sits between Dirleton and Auldhame.
The nearest major city to North Berwick is the cultural and geographical hub of Edinburgh which sits a short drive away to the west.
Recently, North Berwick was voted one of the coolest and prettiest places to live in a survey by TimeOut.
According to reports, TimeOut described North Berwick as a great place for a day trip with blissful beaches “dotted” with rock pools and “happy dogs”.
Visit Scotland also highlights North Berwick’s beaches alongside its epic coastal scenery and a renowned golf course that sits in the local area.
Furthermore, they say that North Berwick is host to the Scottish Seabird Centre. What’s more, the locality of the famous castles at Tantallon and Dirleton is also part of the town’s appeal.
What’s more, it’s not just TimeOut and Visit Scotland who have heaped praise on North Berwick, but other publications have highlighted its achievements as well.
Earlier this year, it was voted one of the best places to live in the UK on The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide.
Speaking to Express.co.uk about what it was like to live in the best place in the UK, resident Sheena Ritchie said: “It’s lovely here, the scenery, the beaches, golf courses, and most people here are friendly.
“There are lovely independent shops as well and the area is extremely busy in the summer. But we have people coming in winter as well to have a feel of the fresh air.
“Because of its popularity, house prices have gone up. So, our family, and our children can’t afford to live here because the house prices have gone up.”
According to Rightmove, the average price of a property in North Berwick is £497,681 and prices in 2023 were up six percent on the previous year and a massive 10 percent up on 2021.
Fellow resident David Mccol added: “This is a great place to live. People are friendly here. My wife and I are staying in the retirement complex.
“The transport system is nice, you have a train that will take you to nearby places. The bus connectivity is amazing. I have been living here for 11 years and moved here from Edinburgh. In comparison to other cities in the UK, our town is relatively safer.”
