Post Malone Sings Acoustic Version of “America the Beautiful” During Super Bowl Preshow

Must read

Post Malone helped kick off Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on Sunday with an acoustic rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

The singer, wearing blue jeans and a white shirt under a brown blazer, performed the song with his guitar in hand. As players watched on in silence, Taylor Swift and Blake Lively were also seen hugging and swaying to the special performance.

Post Malone is set to be featured on the opening track “Fortnight” of Swift’s upcoming album The Tortured Poets Department.

The 10-time Grammy-nominated artist has dominated the music industry since his breakout hit “White Iverson” in 2015. He has since scored four No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “Circles,” “Sunflower,” “Rockstar” and “Psycho.” Two of his albums, including 2018’s Beerbongs & Bentleys and 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding, also earned nominations for album of the year during their respective years at the Grammys.

On Sunday, Post Malone followed in the shoes of Babyface, who sang “America the Beautiful” during the Super Bowl last year, before the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles. The specific song has been part of the Super Bowl pre-game tradition since 2009.

Though performing for massive crowds is nothing new for the singer, he admitted during an interview with Apple Music ahead of the big game that it’s still “nerve-wracking.”

“I’m very nervous,” Post Malone said at the time. “But excited, I’m excited. I don’t know, it’s just fun and super epic to be able to go out there and sing a song so many beautiful artists have sang before on this stage. And I’m just gonna do my best, just do my best, and give it what I got.”

As for other performers on Sunday, Reba McEntire sang the national anthem, while Andra Day performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Usher is also set to headline this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are facing off at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII.
