Mercury Retrograde Is Here to Add Some Chaos to Your End-of-Summer Plans

Must read

Welp, it’s that time of year again—Mercury Retrograde. On August 23 (the same day that Virgo season starts), the planet of communication goes retrograde in the sign of Virgo, until it stations direct on September 15. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces, you guys are facing the brunt of this retrograde. But shoutout to Taurus and Capricorn, because you’ll be facing less of a struggle than the others for the next few weeks.

Classic Mercury Retrograde symptoms include miscommunications, scheduling issues, technology mishaps, and surprise encounters with people from your past. You should always double check for typos in important messages. Free advice: Start focusing on listening closely and thinking before you speak. When ex friends, lovers, or colleagues come around, hear them out. There might be the chance for you to invite them back into your life. But if not, this is a great time to find closure and truly move on.

Don’t panic, because there’s a bright side to all this! Mercury’s absolute favorite sign is Virgo, so even though it’s moving backwards, there are still some good vibes. During a normal Mercury Retrograde, you might neglect to read the fine print when signing a contract, or you might start an important conversation with an entirely wrong opening. But with this one, you’re more likely to actually pay attention to the fine print before signing, and you have the presence of mind to think before you open your mouth.

This retrograde is definitely easier than usual, but you’re still bumping into a couple issues. Retrogrades happen so you can hit the pause button and evaluate your life. You’ve likely outgrown different people/areas of your life—now’s the time to move on from them. There might be room to invite an old friend, lover, or colleague back into your circle. This retrograde is your opportunity to reconnect. Be patient and use all of this Virgo astro to think critically and tackle these issues in a practical, sensible way. Good luck!

You need to play nice, Aries. There are people at your job that just irk you, and for the next few weeks, you’ll be spending much more time with them. Instead of getting angry, instigating something, or acting out, I encourage you to put down the fisticuffs and give them a chance. Turns out, some of them aren’t really that bad, and regardless of how this situation progresses, you’ll have learned how to be a better member of your team.

Mercury in Virgo wants you to express yourself and open up, but this retrograde is making that a bit difficult. You’re vibrant, you have great ideas, and people would love to hear what you have to say, but something’s holding you back. There’s a little voice in your head asking, “What if I do something weird?” and “What if I say the wrong thing?” You need to tell that voice to f*ck off, and just be you. If someone doesn’t like it, they can exit stage left, but I promise there are loads of people who will love it.

Nobody likes a passive aggressive roommate, Gemini. Whether you’re living with your family, your boo, or a couple of roomies, there are some problems at home and you’re not dealing with them the best way. Maybe you’re the only one who cleans up at your place. Instead of rolling your eyes and being snarky like, “Wow, it sure is hard to be the ONLY person that tidies this place up,” why don’t you be nice and start a direct conversation. They’re probably willing to solve whatever your problem is, but if you act nasty, they’ll act nasty right back.

Whoopsie! You accidentally texted your boss that meme, not your bestie! Uh-oh, you sent that TikTok to your mom instead of your roommate! This Mercury Retrograde is aaaallll about miscommunications for you. This isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it can still be pretty damn embarrassing, so try to think before you speak (or text) for the next few weeks.

You’re as stubborn as they come, but this Mercury Retrograde is making you exponentially more stubborn. You’re usually a cool cat, but when you start butting heads with someone, the claws come out fast. So before resorting to that, slow down. You identify very strongly with your morals, but just because someone’s speaking on their different values doesn’t mean they’re attacking you, or that you need to “prove them right.” Not everything has to be an argument. Be a little more open-minded, please!

Mercury Retrograde in your sign dampens your usually sharp mind and detail-oriented sensibilities, so things are feeling a little slow right now. There may be important conversations you’re dying to start, or new projects you’re eager to begin working on, but you should take a few weeks to lay everything out and review it. Take this time to prepare the perfect way to get the ball rolling.

As sweet and charming as you are, there are still some old connections that you have beef with. Mercury Retrograde is bringing the people you have bad blood with back around, and you need to deal with them once and for all. This doesn’t mean this has to be a battle royale where you blow up on each other and argue for three weeks straight. Instead, use your Libra congeniality to start a conversation and talk through your problems. You don’t have to be their friend or anything, but still—use this as an opportunity to truly move on.

Your squad is shuffling around a lot right now, Scorpio. People are outright fighting with each other and/or talking shit about each other behind their backs, and the drama in your crew is at an all time high. If you can mediate these issues, please do, but don’t feel like you have to be loyal to everyone involved. If someone’s acting shady, you don’t have to keep them around. Right now, you’re finding out who your real friends are, and you’re being given the chance to kick your toxic connections to the curb.

You have big goals that you’re so close to achieving, but you can’t reach them quite yet. There are details you’ve missed, you still need to smooth out some wrinkles, and there are steps you skipped to truly hit this milestone. This is especially true at work. Take this time to make a plan that’s completely bulletproof, and when the retrograde ends, you can finally get the ball rolling and receive your accolades for a job well done.

If you have any travel plans for the next few weeks, you need to prepare for everything. Triple-check your agenda, make sure you show up early with plenty of time before departure, and make sure you leave lots of wiggle room in your schedule. Delayed transportation, lost bags, and other issues are almost certain to come up and slow you down.

If you owe money to anyone, Mercury Retrograde is saying that it’s time to pay the piper. Be frugal during this retrograde, and make sure you’re able to make some kind of payment in the next few weeks. On the bright side, the people that owe you a debt are coming around now to repay you. It might just be your cousin paying you back for the $20 you gave him last week, but hey, that’s better than nothing!

All of your “B” relationships—your bestie, your boo, and your business colleagues—are the focus of this retrograde. Arguments are happening more, and seem to be butting heads over just about everything. Mercury Retrograde is all about miscommunications, so odds are you are on the same page about a few things, you’re just not expressing it well. Think before you speak and try to be very precise with your language—not cold, but calculated—and make sure you’re listening as well. You can work through these simple misunderstandings.
