After a victory in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1), Hukum has joined Mostadhaf in second place in the latest edition of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings. Hukum and Mostadhaf, both owned by Shadwell Estate, are rated at 128, just behind Silk Racing Company’s top-ranked Equinox at 129.
Cody’s Wish and White Abarrio are the highest-ranked American-trained runners, part of a group of seven horses tied in 12th. They have ratings of 122.
C Two Racing Stable and Antonio Pagnano’s White Abarrio, trained by Rick Dutrow, upset the Aug. 5 Whitney Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course, defeating Jeff Drown’s Zandon and Godolphin’s Cody’s Wish. The latter had scored two grade 1 victories earlier this year in the seven-furlong Churchill Downs Stakes (G1) and the Metropolitan Handicap (G1) going a one-turn mile but was less effective in the longer 1 1/8-mile Whitney.
Bruce Lunsford’s Art Collector is next among American horses in a tie for 19th place with a 121 rating, a mark shared by turf horse Up to the Mark, who races for Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable.
Reigning Eclipse Award-winning male sprinter Elite Power is tied for 25th with a 120 rating after winning the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1) at Saratoga July 29.
Bill Mott trains Cody’s Wish, Art Collector, and Elite Power, while Todd Pletcher trains Up to the Mark.
