LONDON, U.K. — The lone English Premier League match on Monday sees two clubs with really no expectations in the final few months of the season, as Crystal Palace takes on Chelsea.
It is another lackluster EPL season for Chelsea. Despite the big paychecks for their players, it has not resulted in wins for the club. They had a decent stretch after Christmas, winning three straight league matches, but were hammered by league-leading Liverpool, before a lackluster performance led to a 4-2 loss to Wolverhampton at Stamford Bridge last Sunday. The Blues might have a little pep in their step after beating Aston Villa on the road in the FA Cup fourth-round replay on Wednesday.
Chelsea is sitting 11th in the table, 13 points out fifth place, but 12 ahead of the bottom three.
Crystal Palace has to be careful, or else they could fall into the relegation conversation. With losses in two of their last three matches, including a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton nine days ago, the Eagles are in the lower half of the league. They have won just two of their last 12 league matches, those wins coming over the also-struggling Brentford and Sheffield United sides.
Crystal Palace comes into Monday 14th in the table, five points ahead of 18th-place Everton.
Chelsea won the first meeting between these two clubs back on Dec. 27, and is 37-15-12 all-time against the Eagles.
