Last night the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority welcomed more than 200 VIPs, dignitaries and cricket enthusiasts for exclusive black-tie gala event at Lords Cricket Ground. The exclusive evening started with a lively Q&A session with the World-famous West Indies cricket knights: Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Andy Roberts and Sir Curtly Ambrose.
The Knights triumphant return to the “home of cricket” brought back incredible memories of their illustrious careers, many years of which were spent playing for UK cricket clubs.
The celebrations continued with a sumptuous Caribbean-inspired three-course dinner, followed by a joyous musical performance from the acclaimed band Spirited, featuring Sir Richie Richardson and Sir Curtly Ambrose.
The London gala event marked the launch of five action-packed days for the cricket Knights who will visit four cities across the UK: London, Leicester, Yorkshire and Glasgow, Scotland for exclusive events hosted by prolific sports journalists and broadcasters. The tour offers a unique opportunity for cricket-enthusiasts to get up-close-and-personal with cricket royalty and experience a taste of Antiguan culture with stunning live musical performances from Spirited. The tour continues with events in Glasgow (24th April), Leeds (25th April) and Leicester (26th and 27th April).
The UK roadshow shines a light on a year of world-class cricket in Antigua and Barbuda in 2024, kicking off with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, where Antigua and Barbuda will play host to eight exciting matches at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and attract visitors from around the world. The World Cup kickstarts a number of other prestigious tournaments on island including, The FairBreak T2O Challenge celebrating Women’s Cricket in July. Then, from August 28 – Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL24) Whiteball will take place across the Caribbean, with key matches in Antigua, the birthplace of ‘party cricket.
