Two years of preparation work for a historic first: At nightfall on Tuesday, Disneyland Paris hosted its first-ever fashion show, staged by emerging French label Coperni, with US celebrity Kylie Jenner as surprise princess.
The label by Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer has been booming commercially and on social media in the last two years, all the more so since Belgian singer Angèle wore a Coperni jumpsuit for the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
The two French designers have opted to close this season’s Paris Fashion Week by inviting contemporary fashion’s entire super-rich, extravagant entourage to the forecourt of Disneyland Paris’s fairytale castle.
Light shows, fountains, fireworks, and film music transformed the runway show into a deliberately “magical” experience.
“People don’t know how small Coperni is, but they surely know how big Disney is,” quipped Vaillant taking his bow at the end.
It was a three-act show, featuring childhood, princesses, and “wicked” characters.
Childhood was evoked by looks overflowing with pins, and jeans decorated with plenty of small accessories, while the “villains” showed in all-black faux leather outfits with upturned collar.
Coperni’s princesses were re-imagined in sexy outfits with pastel crinolines to the knees, and in the jersey jumpsuits that have made the label’s success, like the one worn by Angèle.
Celebrity influencer and businesswoman Kylie Jenner (who has 396 million Instagram followers) closed the show in an impressive Gothic princess outfit.
The show’s after-party, held at the Space Mountain attraction, must have had fashion’s princes and princesses dancing into the small hours.
