Hampshire has been found to be the best destination for wildlife enthusiasts in the UK, according to new data from Park Holidays.

With its rolling hills, ancient woodlands, picturesque rivers, and coastal areas, Hampshire boasts a rich and diverse wildlife.

As one in three Brits plan on holidaying in the UK this year, many are turning to countryside retreats suitable for families and young couples alike.

Kelly Johnstone, head of brand and content at Park Holidays, told Express.co.uk: “Our recent study reveals that Hampshire is the best place to see a variety of mammals, insects, birds and plant life.

In Hampshire, the Solent Breezes Holiday Park is located next to many hiking trails and pebble beaches.

Nature lovers may enjoy spotting several deer species, as well as hares, badgers, hedgehogs and American mink in the enighbouring nature and wildlife areas.

The furry serotine, one of the UK’s largest bats, is also known to emerge in the early evening while it is still light.

Second on the list to enjoy British wildlife are the moors of Yorkshire, where squirrels, hedgehogs and deer species can be spotted, as well as the elusive Siberian Chipmunk in woodland and forests, and the rare Barbastelle bat, which has a pug-like face due to its upturned nose.

According to Johnstone, these holiday trips within the country are gaining in popularity for multiple reasons.

With international travel being more costly and dangerous due to natural disasters and extreme heatwaves, as seen in the likes of Spain and Greece this summer, Brits are looking inland for their next trip.
